DescriptionContains 52 drawings. This travel journal demonstrates the variety that is characteristic of most of the artist's sketchbooks. The work is not only disparate in terms of media and technique but also of intent and of style. Drawings like "Burgos Cathedral, Spain" or "Pasaje de Madrid, Barcelona" are straightforward architectural studies by any measure, concrete in their realism and in the illusion of three-dimensionality. In contrast, "Virgen, Spain" or "Espana" are kaleidoscopic in their color and compositions, making only passing reference to the worlds to which their titles allude. Because of these radically different approaches it's difficult to make a case for a book like this as a coherent travel narrative. Instead, we might consider it as a description of the richness and multifaceted nature of travel itself. On View
