BiographySamuel Lancaster Gerry is known as the leader of White Mountain School, named after the region in New Hampshire where the artist painted most of his landscapes. A self-taught artist, Gerry traveled in Europe for three years and studied Old Master paintings before opening a studio in Boston in 1840. He enjoyed a successful career as a painter of landscapes, portraiture, genre painting, and animals. He also became the co-founder of the Boston Art Club in 1858, and later served as its President.Person Type(not assigned)
