Gertrude Alice KayAmerican, 1884 - 1939
Gertrude Alice Kay (1884-1939) is best known for her children's book illustrations, especially those for "Alice in Wonderland." She was born in Ohio and studied at the Philadelphia Museum School with Howard Pyle.
She exhibited at the PAFA before returning home to Ohio to set up her studio. In addition to her children's illustrations, she also painted the American Southwest.
Kay died in an automobile accident at age 55.
