BiographyDe Mers attended the Chouinard Art School in Los Angeles where among his teachers were established illustrators, Pruett Carter (1891-1955) and Lawrence Murphy (1872-1947). He later studied with Reuben Tam (1916 - 1991) at the Brooklyn Museum Art School. Over the next decade, De Mers spent most of his career as a production illustrator and designer for motion pictures at Warner Brothers Studios in California. His first illustration assignment came in 1937 for "Fortune" magazine. It was soon followed by commissions from "Esquire" and other major magazines throughout the U.S. and Europe. From 1934 to 1937 he taught at the Chouinard Art School and later at Parsons School of Design in New York. His works have been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art and at the Society of Illustrators in New York.
