Norbert Brunner
Born in Hohenems in the Vorarlberg region of Austria, Norbert Brunner pursued an apprenticeship at a joinery (a workshop that produces mechanical and architectural joints) from 1984-87 in his hometown. From 1987-1990, he attended the Higher Technical School for Sculpture in Tyrol, followed by the Academy of Applied Arts in Vienna from 1990-1994. There he attended the master sculpture class of Professor Wander Bertoni (b. 1925) and studied with the Italian sculptor, Oswald Oberhuber (b.1931), and the Austrian sound artist Bernhard Leitner (b. 1938) among others. Since then, Brunner has resided in New York City. He exhibits his art extensively in various countries, such as China, Germany, and Australia, and is known for his socially-concious work using mirrors and glass.
