BiographyTom Young received an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1977. His inspiration to become a photographer may be traced back to a childhood incident in which he underwent a medical procedure that required his eyes to be bandaged for weeks. That experience, along with a vivid recollection of having the bandages removed, has greatly influenced his work. "While photographing I feel out of time, blinded from my everyday life. I'm looking both out into the world and back into self, where the world in front of me appears both familiar and mysterious."
