Anna Mary Richards Brewster1870 - 1952
Born in Germantown, Pennsylvania, Brewster developed her artistic talent early under the direction of her father, William Trost Richards, a notable marine painter. An example of his seascapes can be seen to your right. At the age of fourteen, Brewster exhibited and sold a work in the National Academy of Design. She received her formal art training at the Cowles Art School in Boston and later the AcadÈmie Julian in Paris. She exhibited frequently with her father throughout her career, and in 1914 she became a member of the National Association of Women Artists.
