BiographyRossiter, a renowned painter of portraits, religious and genre scenes, also took a keen interest in historical and mythological subjects. He studied the works of the Old Masters throughout Europe and settled in Paris with his wife in 1853. In 1857 Rossiter returned to America and established his residence, studio and art gallery in New York. In 1863 he and his second wife moved to Cold Spring, New York, where he spent the remaining years of his life painting scriptural subjects and landscapes of the surrounding Hudson River Valley.
