BiographyMurphy studied under Edmund Tarbell and Frank Benson at the Boston Museum School and at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1891 to 1896. He became a major figure in the Boston School and taught at Harvard from 1931 to 1937. In 1941 director Sandy Low exhibited paintings by Murphy alongside those of his late wife, Nelly Littlehale Murphy here at the New Britain Museum of American Art.Person Type(not assigned)
