DescriptionAdkison, a contemporary west coast abstract artist, has flattened space so that the side of the rocky cliff and the expanse of field on top are all on the same plane. The rocks are covered with circular lichen (a plant-like fungus) in many colors while the field, occupying the top third of the canvas, is replete with decorative orbs of blue and white wild flowers. The overall effect recalls the sumptuous patterning of Vienna Secession artists such as Gustav Klimt (1862-1918) and Egon Schiele (1890-1918), but Adkison’s dream-like landscapes are always unpopulated. The artist has a delicate, sensitive touch which creates a dream-like mood.On View
