DescriptionThe jarring angle and confrontational size of "Bridge" creates an unarguable interaction between the viewer and the artwork. This particular representation is of the Arrigoni Bridge between Portland and Middletown, Connecticut, though Waite intentionally leaves out particular locations in his titles. He captures the aging infrastructure of once thriving Northeastern cities, and a sense of nostalgia permeates the work. The geometric, mathematical and realistic rendering of the bridge is punctuated by unexpected slashes of neon pink, yellow, green and blue. Other common subjects in Waite's paintings include public places such as sports stadiums, train stations, schools and formal gardens.
