DescriptionA humble image, "Paris Street" emphasizes the very quaint, charming quality of a medieval Parisian neighborhood. The viewer catches a glimpse of daily life in this seemingly hidden nook of the city and is invited to participate in its excitement. "Paris Street" is reminiscent of Whistler's "Venetian Scene" and Orr employs a similar palette of browns, golds, yellows, and violets. A subdued, nostalgic image, Orr achieves outstanding effects in the contrast of light and dark in the scene. "Paris Street" also resembles closely the pastels of the Post-Impressionists Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and Paul Gauguin, whose work he must have known and studied during his lengthy stay in Paris. On View
