DescriptionContains 23 drawings. Many of the drawings in this book were done with a soft pencil or in brush and ink over a prepared watercolor wash ground color. This is the case with "House on Pulau Duyong, Malaysia" in which a brush drawing using sepia colored ink was done over a very light blue watercolor wash. The drawing was done in March, 1987 when the house was an active household occupied by a fisherman and his family. By 2011 the artist painted it as a very much dilapidated, abandoned structure, (seen in 2015.25.34). Various notes are written on the backs of the sketches of boats, abandoned near his guesthouse. On the reverse of "Low Tide from Awi's House": "...hull in middlegound, remains of 65' vessel restored at cost of $40,000 U.S. and abandoned 8 years previous due to dispute between Canadian and American owners..." Many others refer to marital and financial crises. This graveyard of vessels and the dreams associated with them were sad reminders of the passage of time. In a few years these hulks and their stories would disappear. The drawings remain as a record of their last days.
