DescriptionThis is one of only a handful of finely woven baskets to have a reliable history of having come from Enfield, CT. Like all Shaker baskets, it is made from black ash. Brethren were more likely to make sturdy work baskets such as this example; sisters generally made lighter and finer ones that were sold to tourists. Nearly all baskets of this type were made before 1860.
