DescriptionMary Adelaide (Sloan) Colt was born April 14, 1868 in New York. Her father, Samuel Sloan (1817-1907) was an Irish immigrant who served several decades as President of the Delaware and Lackawanna Railroad, and was a friend of J.P. Morgan. Her mother was Margaret (Elmendorf) Sloan. Mary Adelaide Sloan (known as "Molly"), was the wife of Richard Colt (1863-1938) who, with his father Harris Colt, worked for the Collins Axe Company, of Connecticut, exporting its tools from an office in New York. During Richard's years with the company, the major export was machetes to the tropics. Harris Colt was a cousin to Samuel Colt, the founder of Colt Firearms. Mrs. Colt died in 1954.The children are Samuel Sloan Colt (1892 - 1975) and Catherine Dunscomb Colt (1895-1976). Samuel Sloan Colt married Margaret Van Buren Mason in 1918. They had three children, two daughters and a son. He became President of Bankers Trust Company in New York. Catherine Dunscomb Colt married Charles Denston Dickey in 1917.
