DescriptionN.C. Wyeth enjoyed a distinguished career as a commercial illustrator. As the years passed, however, he grew dissatisfied and aspired to become known for paintings that were not published as illustrations. "Sun Glint" was included in his first New York exhibition in 1939 at MacBeth Gallery, and subsequently has been displayed over a dozen times at museums all over the country. Critics have identified "Sun Glint" as one of his most original, most successful easel paintings. His son-in-law, Peter Hurd, praised Wyeth, writing in 1939 that he possessed "an ability to establish vividly the quality of a certain moment in which he enfolds the observer and causes him to see, to hear, and above all, to feel." "Sun Glint" represents a moment when the sparkle of light on the ocean's surface transforms the banal into the magical.
