BiographyBorn in Hartford, Connecticut, Kappel studied at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York in 1924. An etcher, illustrator, author, and a lecturer, Kappel both wrote and illustrated several books including Louisiana Gallery (1950) and Jamaica Gallery (1960). He exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Montclair Art Museum, New Jersey, and at the Trinity College Austin Arts Center, Hartford, Connecticut in 1966. Renowned primarily for his marine etchings and drypoints, he was also an authority on Chinese and Japanese porcelain and American antiques. Kappel lived and worked in Connecticut for most of his life and he died in New Milford, aged 80.
