Ellen Hoverkamp

Connecticut native Ellen Hoverkamp's exploration of alternative photographic processes began in 1989, using reprographic equipment, particularly the color laser copier, to document floral-based ephemeral compositions. Today, her "scanner photographs" involve using a flatbed scanner as an imaging device. In other words, the scanner itself is Hoverkamp's camera. Her compositions are an unconventional form of still-life, meant to preserve a souvenir of the harvest and of the day.

Hoverkamp was the NBMAA's MetLife Artist-in-Residence for January and February, 2008. The Museum hosted six diverse artists in total for eight-week residencies over two years with funding provided by the MetLife Foundation.
