Will Howe Foote1874 - 1965

William Howe Foote came to the newly formed Old Lyme Art Colony for the first time in 1901 and became one of its key early members, following his return to the U.S. from his studies in Paris. Originally from Grand Rapids, Iowa, Foote fell in love with the quiet, forested town in Connecticut, married, and built a house there by 1909. In Old Lyme, Foote refined his own American Impressionist style, which was strongly influenced by Childe Hassam (1859-1935), an artist who often visited the town.
