James Montgomery Flagg1877 - 1960

The highest paid illustrator of his time, Flagg, a New York native, began submitting illustrations to magazines when he was only sixteen and soon achieved celebrity status through his incredibly popular artwork. He became universally recognized for his "I Want You" recruiting posters for the United States Army. Renowned publisher William Randolph Hearst (1853-1961) employed Flagg to illustrate his magazines and was influential in furthering his career.
