BiographyBorn in Greece, Demetrios arrived in Boston at age fifteen. He was given a scholarship to the Boston Museum School after his drawing talents were recognized. In 1913 he joined Charles Grafly, the noted Philadelphia sculptor, at Folly Cove art colony in Gloucester, Massachusetts, which attracted such accomplished artists as Anna Hyatt Huntington, Leon Kroll, and Paul Manship. Demetrios later studied in Paris and became a popular and successful teacher in the Boston area. Among the hundreds of students he inspired were Patricia Hyland, Rosemary Loring, and Eugenia Seamans.Person Type(not assigned)
