Ralph Pallen Coleman1892 - 1968

A native of Pennsylvania, Ralph Pallen Coleman grew up, studied and lived in Philadelphia for his entire life. He was educated at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industrial Art and is best known for his magazine illustrations during the Great Depression. His artistic imagination and clever style provided millions of Americans with a visual escape from the harsh realities of those years. He was a regular contributor to such leading magazines as "Cosmopolitan" and "Good Housekeeping". Coleman's illustrations were completely in tune with the times and were widely popular due to their housespun subject matter and approachable style.
