Wayman Adams

Born in Muncie, Indiana, Adams is considered one of America’s leading portraitists. His father was a farmer and amateur painter who died when Adams was a young boy. Adams received no formal education after the sixth grade but his artistic talents were recognized at an early age. He received his first portrait commission when he was sixteen and shortly thereafter he went on to study painting at the John Herron Art Institute in Indianapolis.
