BiographyDavid Halliday attended Syracuse University, first studying art and then turning his focus to photojournalism. Wishing to avoid working in commercial photography, he took a job in a restaurant after moving to New York City in 1980. He planned to continue working as a chef when he relocated to New Orleans eleven years later, but he soon returned to photography. Halliday did not abandon his culinary interests entirely, but incorporated them into his photography, explaining, "There's a lot of pleasure in being attentive to the same ingredients that I used to cook with."
