David Hilliard

BiographyDavid Hilliard's works are predominantly large, panoramic, multi-paneled color photographs that allow his poignant narratives, which are a blend of autobiography and fiction, to unfold across several planes in a cinematographic fashion. "Focal planes shift, panel by panel. This sequencing of photographs and shifting of focal planes allows me the luxury of guiding the viewer across the photograph, directing their eye; an effect which could not be achieved through a single image," Hilliard explains.

David Hilliard earned his BFA from the Massachusetts College of Art in 1992 and MFA from Yale University in 1994. He has taught at Yale, Harvard, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston and is currently Director of the Post-Baccalaureate Program in Photography at the Massachusetts College of Art & Design. In 2007, Hilliard participated in the Museum's NEW/NOW series.
