John Woodrow Wilson1922 - 2015
John Woodrow Wilson grew up in Boston and received a BSEd from Tufts University, School of the Museum of Fine Arts. During the 1940s he received training from French modernist painter Fernand Leger at the Leger School of Art in Paris. In the early 1950s he received a fellowship to study art in Mexico City at the Escuela de las Artes del Libro, where he discovered the work of Mexican muralists including that of Diego Rivera. Throughout his career, Wilson has worked as a sculptor and draftsman depicting African-American life and people. He is Professor Emeritus of Art at Boston University where he has taught for 20 years.
