Margot Rosenthal1917 - 2010

Margot Rosenthal lived most of her life in West Hartford. Originally from Berlin, Germany, Rosenthal briefly studied art in Dresden before leaving for the United States with her husband, an ophthalmologist, due to the rise of National Socialism and the persecution of the Jews. By 1940, the Rosenthals had settled into their Connecticut home after living in South America for some time, and Margot began studying art under Dorothy Segal (1900-1984) and Paul Zimmerman (1921-2007) at the Hartford Art School. Margot also began taking photographs to document her children's lives and her talent prompted others to commission her. At the time of her death in 2010, Margot had exhibited in many galleries and museums, earning over 40 awards for her artwork. She was also a beloved member of many arts organizations.
