DescriptionMost of Johnston's work was intended to be used as official publication material for Ziegfeld and his production, but this and a large number of other nude and semi-nude photographs found after Johnston's death would never have been released for public consumption. Though the model is not fully-clothed, she retains the grace and dignified presence characteristic of Johnston's "glamour girls." The woman is draped with a delicately beaded garment, while her hands cover her exposed right breast in a graceful gesture of modesty. It is unclear whether such photographs were created by Johnston to develop his own personal artistic style or to cater to Ziegfeld's private enjoyment, but they attest to Johnston's ability to capture poetically the essence of feminine beauty.
