DescriptionFeatured in her first solo exhibition at 100 Pearl Gallery, Hartford, in April, 2005, she employs a distinctive bleeding technique to produce rivulets on the surface of "Forest". She pays particular attention to the weaving of pigment textures and forms and creates an abstract, complex web of intertwined tree limbs and foliage. Part fantasy and part reality, each one of her paintings appears to project a different image each time it is viewed. In describing her work, Brainerd states:"Painting for me is somewhat of a meditative act, a way to access and play in my subconscious. Sometimes I think of myself as Mme. La Farge, 'knitting' my thoughts of the day into the painting in front of me. It is often an act of discovery with no preconceived notions of what the image will be like- or what will emerge."
