DescriptionGenth's sitters seem to transcend their culture and society. For "Helen Parker", the artist positioned her sitter in the typical fashion, painting the subject seated in full-profile and dressed in a highly colorful textured gown. Helen Monteverde Parker Evans (1885-1975) attended the School of Industrial Art in Philadelphia. She was the daughter of Kate Parker, a celebrated Philadelphia silhouette artist who created many profiles of distinguished Philadelphians. The Parkers were active in society and therefore knew a lot of people in the art world such as Thomas Eakins (1844-1916) who also painted a portrait of Helen.
