DescriptionThe post-Impressionism of Paul Cézanne influenced Kuhn when painting his series of powerful still lifes during his final decades. Generally, his flowers are outlined in black and the mass of the arrangement predominates over individual elements. Like his clowns, "Hydrangeas" conveys an overall impression of sadness, the ponderous blooms are almost too overwhelming to sustain themselves. On View
