Description"Confidence" depicts two elegantly dressed women standing within the gate of a sheltered but softly sunlit pathway. They whisper to each other in secret as the light illuminates their ruffles and lace. This Luminist style was typical of Bricher's work. Details like the woman's gossamer sleeve are handled with delicacy and ease, the skin of her right arm just barely discernible. The foliage encloses the two women but does not overwhelm them. Instead, it adds to the veiled atmosphere of the setting along with the subtle light that filters through the leaves. On View
