DescriptionThe final, and most prolific, years of Luks' career as a watercolorist were spent at his old farm house just west of the Berkshires. The home was beautifully picturesque in its isolated setting against the blue tinted mountains and became a recurrent subject of his late works. “Sunset”, completed in the last few years of Luks' life, exemplifies his use of Expressionistic color and Post-Impressionistic brushstroke. His power as a colorist and draftsman are vividly apparent within this work. Luks employs a dramatic red signature; a color Luks often signed his works in, further emphasizing his presence within the work.
