DescriptionRockface 25, along with the rest of the series, represents Buck's landscape photography at its most abstract. All evidence of location and scale is eliminated from the photograph, highlighting the geometry of line and form that is inherently present in the material itself. The subject is an active rock quarry in Meriden, Connecticut, and thus relates closely with Buck's interest in landscapes altered by human hands, rather than those that occur naturally. He calls these "inadvertent landscapes," referring to what is left behind when humans complete their agendas and move on.
