Description"Women in Hats" features two figures painted in deep crimsons, seemingly frozen in space and time. Slightly departing from the Hofmann mantra of the "push-pull" theory, Trieff presents a rather static composition lacking tension and motion, in which the primary figures are solidly in place. Embellished with gold leaf, the contrasting green background forces the composition into the eye of the viewer. The figures' faces seem nearly identical, with piercing eyes, broad stylized noses, and turned-down lips, all hallmark features of Trieff's portraits.
