DescriptionWalkowitz's watercolors are especially unique in their quick, almost unfinished-looking brushstrokes which give the viewer just enough information to understand the subject. In "Isadora Duncan", Walkowitz uses minimal lines to capture the female figure's essential dance movement and style. Isadora Duncan (1877-1927) played an integral part in the creation of modern dance. Walkowitz is able to capture the fluid movements of the dancer, shown in her blue costume dancing in bare feet. The black background stands in stark contrast to the figure and allows her to pop off the page towards the viewer. The brushstrokes evoke the energy of the dancer as they record her expressive body gestures. On View
